A Level Geography is ideal preparation for studying related subjects at university level, as well as building on your foundations from GCSE Geography.
Geography course overview
A Level Geography covers contemporary geographical issues as well as physical and human geography, builds geographical skills and explores fieldwork. The course deals with environmental impact as well as management and sustainability. You will also build on your statistical skills and learn how to analyse and evaluate feedback.
Upon successful completion of the exam and practical assessments (as administered by CIE), you will have achieved an internationally recognised CIE A Level Geography.
The CIE A level in geography has an alternative to fieldwork paper. This means that instead of doing a fieldwork investigation you can sit an extra paper in an exam centre .
- You will build on your GCSE foundations without repetition of content.
- You will develop fieldwork skills if you choose to do the fieldwork.
- You will have a wide choice of topics for fieldwork investigations and evaluation papers, again if you choose the fieldwork option.
- You will develop a passion for geographical interests and impacts.
- Provide a solid base for study at higher education level.

You will need to contact your local examination centre to work through your coursework requirements.
In addition, there will be a number of tutor marked assessments (TMAs) to ensure that you have a thorough understanding of the course materials, with the tutor sending comments to guide you through any areas of potential difficulty, as well as a range of self-assessments that are indicators that you understand the materials as you work through them. These are for your own information, and do not need to be shown to your course tutor.
Method of study
The course is primarily an online course using a Learning Management System (LMS).
The online course has many features that cannot be printed such as embedded videos, forums and interactive tests.
