This IGCSE will prepare you for study at A-Level as well as giving you a better understanding of society around you.

Upon successful completion of the exam and practical assessments (as administered by CIE), you will have achieved an internationally recognised CIE IGCSE Sociology (0495) qualification.
IGCSE Sociology Content
This IGCSE is divided into 2 units:
Unit 1: Paper 1
Exam Availability: November and June
Written examination: 2 hours 30 mins
- Candidates answer one compulsory question on sociological research methods.
- The candidate will answer three optional questions on culture socialisation, social stratification and inequality, power and authority (60 marks).
- The compulsory question in Section A will be based on source material. The question will carry one third of the marks for the paper. Candidates should spend approximately 45 minutes answering this question. Section A will test Syllabus Unit 1.
- Sections B to D will consist of structured questions based on stimulus material. The stimulus will take the form of a short quotation or statement from a sociological source. Sections B to D will test Syllabus Units 2 to 4. There will be two questions related to each of these units
Unit 2: Paper 2
Exam Availability: November and June
Written examination: 1 hours 45 mins
- Candidates answer three optional questions on the family; education; crime, deviance and social control and the mass media. (40 marks).
- The candidate will answer three optional questions on culture socialisation, social stratification and inequality, power and authority (60 marks).
- The three questions will be structured around some stimulus material. The stimulus will take the form of a short quotation or statement from a sociological source. Candidates will answer three questions from Sections A to D.
- Paper 2 will test Syllabus Units 5 to 8. There will be a choice of two questions related to each of these units.

Assessment
The CIE IGCSE Sociology qualification is gained the exam papers are successfully completed.
These exams are administered by CIE. As a private candidate you will sit your exams in an exam centre such as a school, college or private tuition centre.

Method of study
Online
The IGCSE is delivered online via the Learning Management System (LMS).
The online IGCSE has many features that cannot be printed such as embedded videos, forums and interactive tests.
If you opt for tutor support it also includes Tutor Marked Assessments which you access and submit through the online system.

How quickly can I complete the IGCSE?
You can complete your IGCSE as quickly or slowly within the 12 months as you choose. The recommended study time for the content is 120 hours. The exam dates are set by the exam boards and for IGCSE Sociology are available in November and May/June each year. This gives you two opportunities to complete the exams during the 12 month IGCSE.
